I have only been a member for a short period of time, but I absolutely love it! Everyone from the instructors to the members will make you feel like family. The instructors are motivating, inspiring, and will make your goals their goals. I'm always excited to attend the intense, yet fun, kickboxing sessions and my Kung Fu trainings. Glad I found them!

I don't write reviews often, but I just wanted to make it known how great this school is. My 6 year old daughter has been taking Kung fu classes here for about a month now. She absolutely LOVES it. All of the instructors are impressively both talented and incredible at their art, while always going above and beyond to make it a fun and enjoyable class for the students. I love watching the children learn while having a great time. They build confidence, discipline and an early appreciation for martial arts. I really can't say enough about this wonderful place.

This is a great place!. I really like the atmosphere, the people, and especially the kickboxing classes. I can't complain. The trainers are awesome and that makes you want to go work out. Before I would have to drag myself to the gym, now I can't wait to go through a few punches or do a few burpees. If you haven't thought about kickboxing or martial arts, I would definitely consider it. :)

Joining John Wai Kung Fu is one of the best decisions I've ever made! It has changed my life completely. When I first started I was 100+ pounds overweight and I had no previous gym experience. I was extremely nervous and apprehensive about joining because I couldn't have imagined being able to successfully lose weight and establish a healthy lifestyle. Well let me just say, in 6 months I lost a total of 60 pounds and have lost so many inches off my waist it's mind blowing. The instructors passion and charisma make the classes so much fun and addicting! I can personally say they are like a second family to me.

I’ve had a gym membership for over 10 years and I felt I wasn’t getting the workout I needed. Finally I decided to try iLoveKickboxing and loved it from the moment I started. The workouts are not easy, it is a totally different workout when you are actually hitting and kicking a bag instead of just punching air. You get an all around, full body challenging workout, which I love. Starting at the age of 56 I was a little intimidated at first, but the staff is so supportive and motivating that they make you feel like you are part of their family from day 1. The people are all friendly and always have fun while being tortured. This has definitely been one of the best workouts I have ever had and would highly recommend iLoveKickboxing to anyone. The only thing I regret is not starting sooner.

John Wai has exceeded my expectations since joining over a year and a half ago. Prior to joining, I researched different schools and asked others for recommendations. I often heard others complain about other schools over charging them or not meeting their expectations. I eventually chose John Wai based on a friend's recommendation whose daughter attended the school from a young age and eventually became an instructor. I cannot express enough just how much my daughter has benefited from the teachings of John Wai and his awesome staff. Since joining, my daughter's level of confidence, sense of self, respect for others, profound discipline, ability to defend herself and stand up for others, and genuine love for the martial arts has blossomed and become an integral part of her life. She never wants to miss a class, whether it's Kung fu, sparring or jiu jitsu. We've since moved quite a distance from the school, however, it never occurred to us to leave the school- their commitment to the students, effective training and genuine interest in their students cannot be duplicated. My sincerest thanks to John Wai and his staff (our second family) for all you have done for my daughter, all you have done for us.

5 Reasons Why Training Martial Arts Is The Best New Year Resolution

By John Wai

Introduction

So many people have new years resolutions and for a large percentage, this involves losing weight or getting a fit body. If you have a resolution to get into shape this year but you are sick of the same old exercises, why not give martial arts a try?

You might be hesitant about starting martial arts but absolutely ANYONE can become good at the activity if they put in the effort. Once you get into it, it’s sure to become something you love. Martial arts both enhances your life now, in addition to improving your future. Let’s take a look at the top 5 reasons why training martial arts is the best new years resolution you can have in 2018.

  1. It will help you lose weight

Martial arts quite frankly burn a heap of calories, which is a recipe for successful weight loss! There are a variety of different martial arts, all of which are very intense and train all different parts of your body. Due to the quick movements necessary with martial arts, it’s effective not just for losing weight, but for toning your body in all the areas you want definition. Starting martial arts at the beginning of the year is a good idea because your motivation is strong, due to the fact many people vow to get in shape after the holidays. The amazing things about martial arts is that it’s super fun, so you won’t even feel like you are working out at all. Lose weight and become faster and stronger than what you could have ever imagined with martial arts.

  1. It can help you make new friends

Martial arts is SUCH a social sport and many people take that opportunity to become more vocal and confident. Perhaps your resolution is to become more social this year, you can tackle this by starting martial arts. Improving your skills in a class with other like minded people is going to help you build a bond and connect. Another reason why martial arts can help you make more friends, is because of the confidence it gives you. Having friends with the same interests as you and the same goals in life is really important, and this is what martial arts can do. You will likely train with the some of the same people every single time that you do martial arts. Over time, this will result in you making lifelong friends who inspire you to do better.

  1. It’s something different

Not everyone does martial arts, it’s something that is really different and will give you a alternative perspective on the world and those around you. Doing this activity will also help you gain respect from your peers. It is one of the most exciting type of workouts that you can do and this is largely due to the variety of moves and the sense of accomplishment you will feel when you master them. There is a reason why many people give up after a month or so of going to the gym, and that’s because it is boring! No two martial art workouts are the same, this will mean you will actually look forward to your training sessions and you will never know what to expect. The fact that martial arts is different to more generic forms of exercise, means that you will be more likely to stick with this resolution and get whatever results you are looking for.

  1. It will give you better concentration and focus

Martial arts is so much more than an exercise, it’s a state of mind and this can help you improve in your day to day life. It’s much more complicated than what many people think and when you do it, you will have new skills that many people don’t have. Studies have shown that martial arts is ideal for improving your focus and concentration. Not only will this help you to improve at the activity itself, it will give you more focus in life in general. Starting off children in martial arts at a young age is said to even help them perform better at school. When you are training in a martial arts class, it forces you to focus on the movements and your body in general. When you accomplish different moves due to focusing, you are going to feel confident at the new skills that you are perfecting. This will give you a sense of self discipline as a person and will also give you more control over how your body moves.

  1. It’s ideal for self defense

Many people learn martial arts as a form of self defense and there is no doubt that it will help you protect yourself. Being able to respond quickly and attack if you are in the position where you need to do so, is really useful. Hopefully the moves you master will never need to be used in this way, but it is better to be prepared. Martial arts was originally taught as an activity to help you defend yourself if you need to. If you do need to learn self defense skills, start martial arts today and it might offer more benefits than what you realized.

Conclusion

Whether you are looking to lose weight, learn self defense or you want to improve yourself as a person – this is all promised with martial arts. We offer such a wide range of martial arts, that you are guaranteed to find something that suits you. From Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, kung fu and a whole lot more. At this time of year, we all love to make promises to ourselves, some of which are hard to stick to. Make the right kind of promise and the new skills you learn along the way, will make you never want to quit. It’s clear to see that the benefits of martial arts to your health and mentality are enormous, sign up today and you are not going to regret it.
